Wasn't expecting any bombastic plot nor superb visual effects when I watch this movie. Perhaps, there wasn't much expectation. Hence, I was able to enjoy this movie throughly.
Unlike other Jack Neo's movie, this one consisted of 3 short horror tales: "Roadside Got Ghost", "Forest Got Ghost" and "House Got Ghost". Hokkien was widely used, which I thought contributed to the comedy effect.
The 1st story was about 3 fraudsters. The 2 "kakis" who were supposed to buy some oranges for the "Big Boss", but forgot and decided to get the ones by the roadside, which were actually offerings to the dead. Not only the "Big Boss" complained about the lousy taste, but also criticized the oranges as "not consumable by human". At the same time, they had came up with another fraud - Calling the whole country and giving out "4D" numbers, and telling them to make a 20% offering to them for building a temple when they win. Little did they know that they were being watched by the "owner" of the oranges.
The business began to prosper. One day, the "Big Boss" received a similar call and received the number "6666". He bought the numbers anyway and won the 1st & 2nd prize for the 4D. Thinking that it was "competitors", he did not pay much attention to the "contribution" part. In the end, he was killed by a car, which appeared to be "arranged" by the orange's owner. Particularly like the ending phrase "Mai Jiah Wa eh Orange!" (Don't eat my oranges!)
The 2nd story was about 2 re-reservist soldiers who tried taking a short-cut to their destination, despite the warnings by the army officers. They "made comments" on the picture of tombstones, which was a taboo. Met a "lady" who was "selling drinks" & followed her home when it started to rain. Died a horrible death in the end.
The 3rd story was kinda touching. It 1st showed 3 sons "praying" to their late mother for safety & wealth. The 3 sons were rather unhappy as their business was running smoothly & put the blame on their late mother. Moreover, for unknown reasons, their late mother had been "appearing" in their dreams. At the same time, a "lucky" friend of them was "blessed" with striking lottery endlessly. Hence, thinking that it was useless to "pray", they wanted to "send" their late mother to a temple.
The day of "moving" happened to fall on the same day where the 3 brothers were to drive down to Malaysia to settle some business. The eldest son got a big scare when he successfully "brought" their late mother to the temple, but found the tablet back in his car. After all 3 sons redid the job again, they all left together to Malaysia.
It was pouring heavily while they were driving. Their late mother suddenly "appeared in front", giving them a shock and forced the car off-course. Just when they were being angry with their mother, a landslide occurred in the road ahead of them. At that moment, they understood that they were protected.
The last scene showed the 3 sons "bringing" their late mother home. On their way out, they saw their "lucky" friend who was diagnosed with cancer, came to the temple to choose a place for himself ...
No amount of money can beat health.
